Transplant Donor Net Coordinator

General Summary of Position:
Serves as the on-call Donor Net/Organ Coordinator for the Transplant Program. Maintains current transplant listing information for patients and screens patient emergency calls. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital’s philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards.

The PRN role for on-call Transplant Coordinator functions on an as-needed basis with no guaranteed number of hours weekly.

Qualifications:
  • EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING REQUIRED: Graduate of an accredited college or university. Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing preferred.
  • LICENSURE AND/OR CERTIFICATION: CPR certification. Current D.C. license as a Registered Professional Nurse preferred.
  • EXPERIENCE: Five to seven years of related research/transplant data experience. Outpatient/transplant patient experience and contributions to clinical research highly desirable.
  • SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Excellent understanding of implementing and maintaining transplant database and statistical information related to research. Must be detail-oriented and have familiarity with necessary computer/database software and hardware. Understanding of professional healthcare practice to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. Knowledge of patient relations and education. Familiarity with clinical research protocols. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

Consideration will be given to an appropriate combination of education/training and experience.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Functions as on-call coordinator for organ offers and patient calls as needed Monday-Thursday, starting at 5pm and completing call at 8:30am each day. On weekends, the on-call coordinators will cover from 5pm on Friday until 8:30am on Monday. Holidays will also be covered by the on-call coordinators.
  • Maintains a professional and collaborative relationship with organ procurement coordinators during the allocation of organs for Georgetown transplant candidates.
  • Adhere to all Georgetown University and Transplant Institute policies and procedures.
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures. Attends required meetings via conference call or in person.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities that are appropriate to the position and area.
