Provides specimen testing and analyses for ongoing studies, including next-generation sequencing-based molecular profiling of lung cancers and thymic epithelial malignancies. Utilizes molecular laboratory techniques and instrumentation to conduct next-generation sequencing. Performs and documents quality control and quality assurance. Recognizes, monitors and evaluates technical, instrumental or physical conditions or problems. Performs and documents routine maintenance of equipment. Orders and prepares reagents and supplies required for next-generation sequencing procedures. Assists in evaluating and implementing new technologies and clinical protocols. Frequent interaction with multidisciplinary team and external vendors. Ensures that all quality control, quality assurance and equipment maintenance is documented and maintained according to standards. Provides exceptional customer service. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards.
- BS degree in Biological Sciences or a related field required.
- Five years of laboratory experience preferred.
- Experience in next-generation sequencing preferred.
- Knowledge of bioinformatics and in-depth understanding of molecular biology and genetics preferred.
- Excellent bench skills in DNA/RNA handling and library construction preferred.
- Considerable and current knowledge of principles, methods and techniques of current good manufacturing practices.
- Ability to apply technical knowledge with accuracy in the completion of complex procesing.
- Problem-solving capability with the ability to assess accuracy of results.
