As the process manager/coordinator of the PUBS Liaison Team, the incumbent assists and supports the AVP/Director and associate directors in optimally performing their role as liaisons with clinical practice leadership to meet the primary goal of optimum reimbursement for services rendered by the clinical practices. Divided among the three associate directors are 17+ individual practices with 450+ physicians and $215 million gross charges yearly. In addition, providing support to two multidisciplinary satellites and various acquired practices is included in the team's responsibilities.

PUBS Liaison Team's essential focus is providing individualized attention and specific billing operations management to the practices and building practice leadership trust in PUBS, ensuring the billing service performs optimally. The incumbent will coordinate the myriad of details involved, as well as provide some of the individualized attention. The incumbent must, therefore, develop relationships with all of the practices served by the three associate directors, as well as with other hospital departments that provide services to the clinical practices: Managed Care, Office of Compliance and Reimbursement, IS, etc.

The incumbent uses highly developed skills, including data analysis, DBMS/SQL, spreadsheet, presentation, and IDX dictionary maintenance, in researching/analyzing/documenting/reporting financial, practice and regulatory data in revenue analysis and practice trend projects, as well as identifying and communicating opportunities to maximize and increase revenue retrieval for the hospital.

In support of day-to-day functioning, the incumbent requires in-depth understanding of the physician practice revenue cycle, of today's intricate and complex healthcare market, and of all regulatory and compliance issues involved, as well as excellent technical knowledge of and proficiency with the computer system in use and PUBS's operational processes.

Functioning as back-up to the associate directors, similar qualities are required of the incumbent: flexibility, versatility, complex problem-solving skills, orientation to detail, and ability to grasp the big picture of processes and reimbursement issues and of all the complex interrelationships involved in the physician revenue billing cycle.

These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards.

Required Education/Training:
  • Bachelor's degree.

Required Experience:
  • Minimum five years of medical practice billing experience, IDX environment.
  • Medical practice front-end experience and understanding preferred.
  • Excellent oral communication skills preferred, but not required.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Access.
  • IDX dictionary maintenance.
  • Report production and presentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Highly developed customer service skills.
  • Ability to relate well to physicians and other front office administrators and staff, as well as with back office billing management and staff.
