The Respiratory Care Supervisor (RCS) is the front-line representative for the Respiratory Care Management Team, ensuring by observation and audits that department clinical, regulatory and financial practices and resources meet policy and operational needs of MGUH. The RCS assigns work, coordinates patient care by direct and indirect observation, and assists staff at the bedside. They also assist the RC Leadership Team in establishing best practice performance and practice standards and ensuring adherence to department Clinical Practice Guidelines. The RCS advocates and requires accountability, professional communication, teamwork, and shared decision-making of their team members. Under the direction of the Respiratory Care Director and Manager, the RCS is responsible for the coordination of respiratory care activities for acute care, critical care and other related patient care areas within MGUH. The RCS assumes a leadership role in the development of policies and quality improvement activity and implementation. The RCS strives to ensure appropriate coordination and distribution of staffing and resources.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (of a Co ARC-approved institution) and Associate's degree from an accredited two-year Associate degree program required.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Minimum of four years of experience in respiratory care; competency in all areas of critical care, inclusive of two years of supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
- Current and valid Washington, D.C., license Respiratory Practitioner License.
- Registry from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
- BLS for the Healthcare Provider Certification.
- Has strong clinical and communication skills and demonstrated ability to apply basic principles and techniques of management and supervision, including the ability to direct and motivate.
- Ability to develop and maintain constructive interpersonal relationships and promote team collaboration and cooperation during conflict and difficult situations.
- Time management and organizational skills; ability to meet deadlines.
- Has knowledge of best practice for clinical performance, infection prevention and patient safety.
- Ability to manage changing workloads, staff and equipment shortages, and patient care issues.
- Basic computer skills: data entry, e-mail, EMR, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Planning and conducting in-service education and training.
