MedStar Georgetown's Department of Surgical Services is currently seeking a Registered Nurse for the role of Gastroenterology Nurse Patient Referral Liaison. MedStar Health offers internationally recognized expertise in all aspects of the digestive system. Our doctors have access to the latest diagnostic and treatment technology available. This enables us to consistently produce exceptional success rates and provide a full range of treatment options, including endoscopic treatments, liver and small bowel transplants, colon and rectal surgery, and endoscopic services that use the latest technology to help diagnose and treat gastrointestinal illnesses.

Under the direction of the Manager, Referral Liaison Service and the Vice President, Surgical Services, Washington Region, the Registered Nurse, Gastroenterology Referral Liaison would:
  • Be responsible for the coordination of physician-driven patient referrals.
  • Receive referral calls from physicians to support streamlined patient access to care.
  • Ensure patient referral process for specialty services is coordinated, anticipating patient and family needs throughout the process. Specialty services include, but are not limited to, gastroenterology consults, gastroenterology procedures, surgery, emergency care, inpatient services and follow-up care, medical and surgical subspecialty services, and community-based physicians.
  • Function as a patient/physician advocate, facilitating prompt scheduling, rapid transfer and continuing follow-up care for patients referred to MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and MedStar Washington Hospital Center.

Required Education/Training:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Nursing preferred.

Required Experience:
  • Two years of professional nursing (RN) experience.
  • At least one year of previous gastroenterology/outpatient procedures highly desirable.
