General Summary of Position:
The individual in this position is responsible for all the functions and activities related to the preauthorization process for imaging studies from initiation or request through approval or denial of the request, insurance verification and financial counseling. The person in this position supervises and directs the maintenance and monitoring of any potential breaches to the patient health record. The person in this position is responsible for performing all functions in accordance with MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's (MGUH) philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards.

Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree preferred.
  • At least three years of experience in a medical/clinical office required.
  • Experience with preauthorization or pre-certification process preferred.
  • Working knowledge of IDX/GE Centricity Business preferred.
  • Experience with an electronic health record system desired, especially GE Centricity Clinical or Aria.
  • Working knowledge of managed care, HMO and PPO requirements of imaging studies requiring preauthorization and/or referrals.
  • Working knowledge of IDX/GE Centricity Business preferred.
  • Ability to perform in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills, and good telephone etiquette.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to deal effectively and professionally with a variety of different individuals.
