The individual in this position is responsible for all of the functions and activities related to the pre-authorization process for imaging studies from initiation or request through approval or denial of the request, insurance verification and financial counseling. The person in this position supervises and directs the maintenance and monitoring of any potential breaches to the patient health record. The person in this position is responsible for performing all functions in accordance with MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's (MGUH) philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards.

Required Education/Training:
  • Associate's degree.

Required Experience:
  • At least three years of experience in a medical/clinical office required.
  • Experience with pre-authorization or pre-certification process preferred.
  • Working knowledge of IDX/GE Centricity Business preferred.
  • Experience with an electronic health record system desired, especially GE Centricity Clinical or Aria.
  • Working knowledge of managed care, HMO and PPO requirements of imaging studies requiring pre-authorization and/or referrals.
  • Working knowledge of IDX/GE Centricity Business preferred.
  • Experience with an electronic health record system desired, especially GE Centricity EHR or Aria.
  • Ability to perform in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills, and good telephone etiquette.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to deal effectively and professionally with a variety of different individuals.
