Critical Care Fellowship for Experienced Nurses Wanting to Transition to the Emergency Department

If you are seeking the excitement and challenge of a critical care environment, MedStar Georgetown University Hospital is offering a unique opportunity to train as a critical care nurse. This training fellowship includes:
  • Personalized orientation schedule, one-on-one preceptorship
  • Essentials of Critical Care Orientation (American Association of Critical Care Nurses)
  • American Heart Association certifications, as needed (BLS, ACLS, PALS)
  • Specialty content classes

Requirements:
  • All applicants must have at least two years of hospital-based, inpatient nursing experience.
  • Internal applicants must have been in their current position for at least one year.
  • All applicants will be required to commit to one year of full-time employment, following completion of the unit-based orientation.

Start Dates:
  • July/August 2019
  • February/March 2020

Emergency Department
MedStar Georgetown University Hospital’s Emergency Department is a Level Two Trauma Center. The Emergency Department is staffed and equipped to care for 36,000 patients a year presenting for emergency evaluation and treatment. An experienced nurse will assess and triage their care as they enter the department and ensure that thorough, consistent, high-quality care is delivered to each patient. All of the nurses in the Emergency Department are certified in BLS, ACLS and PALS, but many also have their CEN, TNCC and ENPC certifications. Leadership supports and encourages nurses to enhance their educational expertise and professional development. MedStar Georgetown’s Emergency Department prides itself on its collaborative governance and decision making, which creates and implements new ideas centered on evidence-based practice. A team approach to staffing and assignments is a major initiative component that is embraced by the Emergency Department staff.
