General Summary of Position:
Responsible for the coordination of patient care across the continuum of oncologic care for patients of the Blood and Marrow Transplant Program. The person will be responsible for providing assistance in coordinating patient evaluation, educating, informing and supporting patients and their families about treatment options and facilitating treatment plans. This individual will function as a patient advocate, guiding patients and families throughout the bone marrow transplant care experience. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.
CONSIDERATION WILL BE GIVEN TO AN APPROPRIATE COMBINATION OF EDUCATION/TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
LICENSURE AND/OR CERTIFICATION: Current valid District of Columbia professional registered nurse license. OCN certification preferred at hire or eligible/obtained within 28 months. Familiarity with FACT Certification process a plus. BCLS certification.
EXPERIENCE: 3 years experience in Hematology Oncology preferred. Focus on BMT transplant, apheresis and photopheresis a plus. Training in QA/QI activities Experience in hematology/bone marrow transplant a plus.
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Extensive knowledge of chart review. Excellent time management skills and computer knowledge. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Familiarity with PC and software, such as Windows (i.e. Microsoft office, Power Point, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Reviews information entered into databases for FDA, FACT, and NMDP. Assures the accuracy of data submitted to NMDP, IBMTR and ABMT.
Monitors staff regulatory compliance related to annual validations.
Develops and provides assessment tools for monitoring staff education compliance.
Meets with the program medical director and the Collection Facility Director and Nurse Managers to design and implement Standard Operating Procedures.
Works on special projects for Blood and Marrow Transplant Department including quality assurance, regulatory affairs and education.
Submits regulatory and education reports as requested.
Coordinates/facilitates quarterly quality management meetings, including agenda, audits, validation studies and collection reports.
Provides annual reports for insurance carriers and reviews all “Request For Information” requests from outside institutions regarding Bone Marrow Transplant statistical data.
Responsible for developing and maintaining the Blood and Marrow Transplant Program’s Total Quality Management Plan.
Performs audits to monitor compliance with regulatory standards as outlined by agencies such as FACT, JC.
