General Summary of Position:
Works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary health care team based in the division of Infectious Disease and Travel Medicine, managing the patient population in the inpatient and outpatient settings at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital (MGUH). Specifically, this role requires preliminary assessment of the patient’s presenting clinical problem in the context of tests performed and clinical presentation, toward determining the need for further diagnostic testing to be attained prior to proper triage and disposition of the patient for evaluation. The PA is responsible for professional development and competency validation. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital’s philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of accredited PA program.
  • State licensure in the District of Columbia as PA.
  • BLS Certification. 
  • Minimum of 1-year infectious disease experience preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients/families as well as staff and physicians. 
  • Experience with arterial and central line placement and monitoring. 
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations, and procedures to administer patient care.
  • Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods, and techniques of professional nursing to provide ongoing patient care.
  • Skill in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills with a broad spectrum of professionals, including attending physicians, residents, medical students, trainees, support staff and hospital management.
