Patient Advocacy Coordinator acts as an impartial member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team to identify, assess and refer issues or concerns of patients, families or providers in all care settings within GUH and the physician group practice. By acting as the "voice" of the patient and family, the Patient Advocacy Coordinator ensures that concerns or perceptions are heard in order to work toward a resolution in the provision of high quality care. The Patient Advocacy Coordinator identifies, assesses and refers issues or concerns appropriately when there is a potential risk to the patient, provider or the organization. In addition, this position follows the Complaint/Grievance Policy #10 and ensures all written grievances are addressed appropriately. Will act as the system administrator and database manager for the hospital's feedback reporting system (RLS). Works with clinicians, administrators and leadership within the hospital to implement and sustain a system for process improvement that supports the reduction of patient complaints/grievances. These functions are coordinated with the department head and are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.
- BSN or BA/BS degree in healthcare-related field
- Minimum of five years experience in healthcare, consumer advocacy, patient relations or related field.
- RN preferred.
- If a registered nurse, must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and hold a current DC license as a registered nurse.
- Demonstrated experience with patients and families in an inpatient setting.
- Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and multicultural environment.
- Ability to defuse stressful situations and resolve issues.
- Well-developed listening, interpretative and conciliation skills.
- Excellent communication, writing and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel.
