General Summary of Position:
The associate uses highly developed skills, including data analysis, spreadsheet and presentation, in researching/analyzing/documenting/reporting financial, practice and regulatory data in revenue analysis and insurance payment trend projects, as well as identifying and communicating opportunities to maximize and increase revenue retrieval for a portion of approximately one billion dollars of annual accounts receivable. Under general supervision, performs accounts receivable follow-up/collection procedures to obtain timely reimbursement from third-party carriers and other payment sources on highly complicated invoices of Tier III. Leads and coordinates the activities of an assigned payer team responsible for billing, collection, posting payment adjustments as needed, and follow-up functions. In support of day-to-day functioning, the associate requires in-depth understanding of the physician practice revenue cycle, of today’s intricate and complex healthcare market, and of all regulatory and compliance issues involved, as well as excellent technical knowledge of and proficiency with the computer system in use and MPBS’s operational processes. Functioning as back-up to the Follow-Up Supervisor, similar qualities are required of the associate: flexibility, versatility, complex problem-solving skills, orientation to detail, and ability to grasp the big picture of processes and reimbursement issues and all the complex interrelationships involved in the physician revenue billing cycle. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Health’s philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards.

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor’s preferred.  
  • Experience and proficiency using an automated billing system; GE IDX and ETM experience preferred.
  • Minimum five years of related experience in hospital/physician patient accounts or equivalent experience is required.
