C5-3 is a 7-bed General Pediatric and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology unit. It is one of the most recently renovated units at MedStar Georgetown. All of the rooms are private rooms that have been constructed to provide a more comfortable environment for our patients and their families, which include sleeper sofas and refrigerators. Clinical Nurses on C5-3 provide expert care for both our general pediatric patients and our pediatric oncology patients. C5-3 was recognized for attaining 4 years without any CLABSIs (Central Line Associated Blood Stream Infections).
Responsible for providing competent professional nursing care using the nursing process. Provides direct patient care, utilizing the nursing process or assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care. Also participates in communication and decision-making activities of the unit, which include provision of care.
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Current D.C. license as a Registered Professional Nurse.
Certification in Basic Life Support.
New employees must have minimum of two years of acute care experience in the area desired to work and a skill base broad enough to enable floating within a clinical area.
Must have certification and skills in appropriate areas of practice (e.g., PALS for PICU).
Permanent staff wishing to transfer to PRN must have one year of full-time acute care experience in the area desired to work and must have a recommendation from the nurse's unit manager.
