The Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center was established in 1971. Lombardi was initially designated by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in 1974 and achieved NCI comprehensive status in 1990. The mission of Lombardi is to improve the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cancer through innovative basic science, clinical research, patient care, community outreach, and the training of cancer specialists of the future.
In the spring of 2013, MedStar Georgetown University Hospital entered into an affiliation with Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) to establish a Blood Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program. This agreement creates greater access to people with cancer, blood diseases and immune deficiency conditions to receive lifesaving treatment in the Washington, D.C. area. In 2016, the Blood Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program received FACT accreditation for autologous patients and accreditation for allogeneic transplants patients in 2017.
In this role, you will function as a Nurse Practitioner to provide comprehensive care to Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy patients. This position manages a group of clinically complex or resource-intensive patients. Management includes assessing, diagnosing, planning, and prescribing pharmacological (in a collaborative practice) and non-pharmaceutical treatment for health problems according to established protocols, standards of care, health promotion, and preventive care within a specialized area of practice. You will also perform physical and psychological assessments and diagnosis and treatment of episodic illnesses in collaboration with physicians, in addition to diagnostic procedures. Duties also include participating in staff education; overseeing the administration of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, blood products, and supportive therapies; and coordinating and communicating all aspects of care with patients/family and the healthcare team.
Master's degree in Nursing or Science.
Graduate of an NLN/AACN-accredited program in nursing.
Maintains clinical competencies through participating in continuing educational programs (contact hours per years) and clinical practice, as mandated by Board of Nursing and national certification body.
Experience in working with BMT patients preferred. However, consideration will be given to a candidate with RN experience in working with hematology/BMT.
Experience in a university teaching hospital preferred.
Excellent clinical knowledge base in oncology.
