MedStar Georgetown's Department of Urology is currently seeking a Nurse Manager to complement their interdisciplinary team. MedStar Georgetown University Hospital was the first hospital in the nation's capital to achieve Magnet® Recognition in 2004 and has since been recognized 2 additional times. MedStar Georgetown University Hospital is recognized among the Best Hospitals by U.S. News & World Report in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area for four clinical service lines, which include Urology. The Department of Urology employs six physicians who provide care to patients at four locations in Washington, D.C., and Maryland.

MedStar Georgetown's Department of Urology:
  • Works with and is an integral part of the multidisciplinary team of the MedStar Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center.
  • Was among the first to perform urologic surgeries using the da Vinci robot to facilitate complex surgery using a minimally invasive approach.
  • Is one of the first hospitals in the nation to use CyberKnife®, a non-invasive treatment for cancerous and non-cancerous tumors and other conditions where radiation therapy is indicated.

As a member of the MGUH Urology leadership team, the Nurse Manager II position manages and oversees the clinical operations of the Urology Department inclusive of, but not limited to:
  • Performing professional nursing services in outpatient ambulatory care clinical settings, including patient assessment, assisting in procedures, patient teaching, and ongoing care. Ensuring that the other clinical team members are also fulfilling these requirements as appropriate for the job role.
  • Participating in recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating the MGUH Urology clinical staff. The MGUH Urology clinical staff consists of nurses and Certified Office Medical Assistants.
  • Coordinating clinical staff activities and communicating recommendations for change to Chairman and Department Administrator for consideration and implementation. Participating in problem-solving activities to resolve areas of complication.
  • Identifying quality assurance and quality improvement indicators, and participating in data collection and analysis related to indicators. Identifying and reinforcing issues related to modification in practice and standards of care. Incorporating practice updates into departmental protocols and manuals.

These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards.

Required Education/Training:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • BSN required; Master's degree in Health Care, Nursing Administration preferred.

Required Experience:
  • Two to three years of progressively responsible experience in a hospital setting or physician practice.
  • One year of supervisory experience preferred.

Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, organizational, and management skills.
  • Ability to multitask and ensure follow-through and compliance.
  • Experience with development of clinical protocols/pathways and managing physician-directed services is necessary.
