General Summary of Position:
Provides advocacy, medical interpretation and care coordination for Limited English Proficient (LEP) patients and families/caretakers. Ensures language access and culturally sensitive and appropriate care for patients and families requiring communication accommodation in in- and outpatient settings. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards.

  • Associate's degree in a health care-related field; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of experience interpreting in a medical setting.
  • Three years of experience preferred.
  • Bilingual oral and written fluency in Spanish.
  • Ability to identify and address obstacles to high-quality patient care and satisfaction.
  • Ability to work in multiculturally diverse environment.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to defuse stressful circumstances.
  • Well-developed listening, interpretative and conciliation skills.
  • Networking skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, PowerPoint and Excel.

Spoken Language:
  • National certification in medical interpreting as available and applicable.
  • Other state and spoken language certifications.
