General Summary of Position:
The incumbent in this position is responsible for surveillance and reporting of nosocomial infections, as well as critically observing and recommending appropriate infection control measures. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Nursing or a Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Microbiology, or related science field required.
  • One to three years of experience as an Infection Control Practitioner preferred.
  • Two years of experience in a hospital, public health, laboratory, or infectious disease setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Use of computer terminal, typewriter and other general office equipment.
  • If RN, current D.C. licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse required.
  • Certification in Infection Control preferred.
  • Knowledge of The Joint Commission (TJC) standards, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Law on Bloodborne Pathogens, and D.C. Title 8 requirements.
  • Must have excellent communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Teaching experience preferred.
