General Summary of Position:
The incumbent in this position is responsible for providing competent professional nursing care under supervision using the nursing process. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards.
EDUCATION/TRAINING: Graduation from an accredited baccalaureate school of nursing.
EXPERIENCE: Experience as a nursing assistant or nurse tech desired. Satisfactory references from the school of nursing attended.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: 1) Must be waiting for results of NCLEX exam (first sitting) already taken, 2) must have set a NCLEX exam date (first sitting) within 2 months of GUH hire/start date, or 3) must have successfully completed the NCLEX and is awaiting D.C. nursing licensure. No Graduate Nurse Technician can be in this classification if they have already failed boards or if they do not set a NCLEX exam date within two months after hire/start. BLS required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Ability to perform nursing technologies under supervision. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to set priorities and work under stress.
Consideration will be given to an appopriate combination of education/training and experience.

Demonstrates professional practice that is grounded in a culture of safety and quality under supervision.
COMMUNICATION and COLLABORATION
Communicates and collaborates with interprofessional groups to ensure coordination, continuity and safe care under supervision.
Communicates verbal information and documents written and electronic information that reflects the planned and delivered care for a patient under supervision.
Supports and contributes to the unit, department and organizational goals inclusive of the mission, vision and values.
Demonstrates advocacy and support on behalf of interprofessional teams and patients.
Participates in the development and implementation of quality activities under supervision.
Participates in professional development activities.
Incorporates evidence-based practice and research into patient care delivery under supervision.
Performs other duties and responsibilities that are appropriate to the position and area.
