The incumbent in this position is a manager who participates in and facilitates the management of the operational, personnel and financial activities of the assigned specialty areas. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards.

Required Education/Training:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Current D.C. license as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • Certification in operating room nursing preferred.
  • BCLS Certification.

Required Experience:
  • Three years of operating room experience, inclusive of one year experience in specific clinical specialty area with leadership experience that includes teaching and evaluating personnel, and two years of clinical OR experience in a acute care OR that included the major surgical specialties, i.e., General, GYN, Urology, Neuro, Ortho, ENT, PV, Plastic, Cardiothoracic, and Ambulatory.

Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Thorough knowledge of perioperative nursing experience for assigned area.
  • Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care delivery systems for the area.
  • Ability to work under stress and maintain emotional control during emergency situations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Effective verbal/written communication skills.
