General Summary of Position:
Performs and documents simple and complex automated and/or manual procedures and assays on cellular products intended for infusion into patients for reconstitution or augmentation of the hematopoietic, immune systems and/or other solid organ. Performs and documents quality control and release on cell products, reagents and supplies. Recognizes, monitors and evaluates technical, instrumental or physical conditions or problems. Performs and documents routine maintenance of equipment. Orders, qualifies and prepares reagents and supplies required for cell processing procedures. Assists in evaluating and implementing new technologies and clinical protocols. Frequent interaction with multidisciplinary team and external vendors. Rotates on-call responsibility for monitoring equipment alarms and for cell processing procedures on nights, weekends and holidays. Ensures that all quality control, quality assurance and equipment maintenance is documented and maintained according to standards. Provides exceptional customer service as needed. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards.

  • BS degree in Biological Sciences or a related field required.
  • Three years of laboratory experience preferred.
  • Experience in the clinical human cellular/tissue product manufacturing (e.g., human islets or bone marrow cellular processing) preferred.
  • Experience in sterile techniques and familiarity with GMP and GLP regulations preferred.
  • Human islet-related research background plus.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to meet expectations relative to the purpose of the position and perform each essential function satisfactorily.

  • Considerable and current knowledge of principles, methods and techniques of current good manufacturing practices.
