General Summary of Position:
The incumbent in this position works closely with Department Chairman, Administrator IV, Division Chiefs and physicians to maximize the clinical and financial operation of the department. Responsible for overseeing clinical operations, practice support staff, budgeting, and finance for the Department of Plastic Surgery. Clinical operations management responsibilities include, but are not limited to, oversight of human resources-related activities for all staff, implementation of hospital-wide policies and procedures, establishment of policies and goals to achieve objectives, program and staff development, clinical operations, financial management, facilities management, and overall coordination of clinical and academic programs for the above named divisions. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital’s philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards.

Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Health Services Administration or related field.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in a hospital setting.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Works closely with Department Chairman, Division Chiefs and Administrator IV in all aspects of the divisions, which include, but are not limited to, personnel, medical staff issues, CME, budget and finance, and faculty recruitment. Provides ongoing supervision and problem solving for clinical operations and practice and support staff within the Department of Plastic Surgery.
  • Oversees the revenue cycle to maximize practice revenue. Evaluates reimbursements and identifies opportunities to improve revenue generation and collection. Identifies problems in the billing cycle and implements plans to ensure maximum reimbursement.
  • Performs financial management activities, including assessment of Blue Books on monthly basis. Provides recommendations for programmatic strategic initiatives, revenue projections and oversight of expenses. Works closely with the Administrator IV, Department Chair, Division Chiefs, and finance and administrative staff with regard to annual budgets, business plans and projections. Provides faculty with financial and management reports. Develops business plans to include revenue and cost projections.
  • Oversees Human Resources-related activities for department, including recruiting, interviewing, training, counseling, and evaluating support staff. Coaches, counsels and mentors staff with regard to performance and maintains appropriate documentation. Evaluates staff performance, performing annual and probationary evaluations. Performs disciplinary action when necessary in close coordination with the Department of Human Resources.
  • Participates in physician recruitment and credentialing, working closely with the Credentials Coordinator, PUBS and other departments to ensure successful on-boarding of new physicians, including Requests to Recruit, offer letters, contracts, licenses, credentialing, etc.
  • Implements hospital-wide policies and procedures to ensure compliance with JCAHO, OSHA, NCQA, HIPAA, and other MGUH policies and procedures.
  • Establishes department-specific continuous improvement strategies to improve the patient experience and employee satisfaction.
  • Establishes and implements department-specific clinical operations policies and procedures to ensure efficient use of staff, equipment and supplies. Conducts assessments of practice operations to maximize efficiency, including identifying areas for staff development and program development. Gathers information to ensure internal and external satisfaction, cost-effectiveness and efficiency of practice operations.
  • Represents the Department of Plastic Surgery on MGUH committees and works with GPG and hospital committees to improve customer service initiatives and conform to policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities that are appropriate to the position and area.
